Colour palette

Tesserae uses Shopify’s colour palette: each colour role is set once and used everywhere, and readable text is worked out for you.

The palette

Theme settings → Colors holds eleven roles: background, text, surface, tint, contrast and its text, brand and its text, two accents and border. Buttons, inputs, badges, cards and drawers point at palette roles, so change the palette first.

Theme settings → Colors showing the palette swatches and the page background, text and shadow colours, each set to a palette colour

Section colours

Most sections have a Background color, and image-led ones add Text and Background gradient. When you set only a background, the theme picks a text colour, accent and button colours that pass WCAG AA contrast. A text colour you choose yourself is never overridden, so check it against the background.

Detaching an element

If changing a palette colour changes something you wanted to keep, give that element its own colour in its settings group. It then no longer follows the palette.
